Movies
Jim and I watched all three of the Star Wars movies on Sunday. On our movie screen, it was the first time we had seen them movie size in a long time. I remember seeing the first one but I can’t really remember seeing the second and third at the theater. I could go on line and see when they came out and see if that would give a clue as to why. This afternoon I’m going to watch IN the Good Old Summertime which is a remake of a movie called shop around the corner and was later remade as you’ve got mail. All three are good movies which show that a good story will stand the test of time. The one this afternoon is a musical, you’ve got mail has computers. What they all have is people sharing thier life anonymously with someone. You can write a letter and send it to a post office box, post in a chat room, or have a blog.
Since it was cooler last night, I took Zoey to Jim’s ballgame. I took a bunch of treats and I ran out. There were 2 little girls determined to pet her. She eventually gave in, she was sitting under my legs but she let them pet her. One kept giving her water after I ran out of treats. She finally crept out and sniffed their fingers looking for more treats. I gave her a bath yesterday afternoon by myself. Jim and I had this theory that because she doesn’t mind the rain, she wouldn’t mind the hose. Boy were we wrong. Since we never eat on the deck table I used that. We’ve been giving her baths on it all the time, but we poured the water on her from milk jugs, it wasn’t warm enough to spray her in march. This was the first time I used the hose (by the way she’s had several baths over the time we’ve had her) I sat her on the table and turned on the hose lets just say it was a good thing I had a hold on her collar she would have been in the next county. I was soaked and covered with dog hair. Oh by the way did you know dogs shed more when they stressed, Zoey puts out a cloud of dog hair and it just floats in the air.

Zoey and puppy class. Zoey is still terrified of class it doesn’t help that the dogs are 3 0r 4 times her size but to be honest she afraid of little dogs too. So the instructor decided to try just holding her against Zoeys will until she calms down. This is based on how did her pet rats. (She’s really sweet but after the rat story I was glad I wasn’t her mother) The theory is you can only be terrified so long, it takes a lot of energy and you just can’t maintain it. It seem to work. Zoey actually went to her after she let her down. I gave her the calm aid which she loved. She turned it over on the floor she practially licked the whole hallway then I had to mop up the dog slobber. We are still getting up an walking as far as I’m concerned at o dark thirty, but otherwise its just to hot.
I’ve passed notes back and forth with several friends on facebook. Its great to be in touch with their lives again. But I’m curious why have some people signed up, and some haven’t. I didn’t for a long time because daughter just thinks adults on facebook is creepy but she’s getting over it. Did other teenagers feel that way about their parents signing up? When I signed Jim up his high school didn’t come up so does that mean he’s the first from his high school? When I was going thru the years looking for people I remembered some years have a lot some don’t and it doesn’t seem to be the younger classes have more people that use facebook. The high school I went to for 3 years doesn’t exist anymore what happen to those people. Maybe I’ll change my high school and see what happens? inquiring minds want to know.

Last Saturday as I was writing my post there was this nagging thought of something I wanted to include, couldn’t think of it. Put my post on hold and went and got another cup of coffee still nothing so I published my post. Sunday morning in that twilight between being awake and still asleep I remembered. On monday at the oldtimers softball game, we were talking about where we were from. One couple was going back to West Virginia to visit their daughter, where they are from. Somebody ask where I was from and I said Kentucky and this guy in front of me ask where I was from in Kentucky and said near Lexington. He replied that his wife went to college in Ky, so my part of the conversation was to ask where in Kentucky and the answer was Berea College. She had graduated in the spring of ‘72 and we had arrived that fall. She had gone to Berea because the Biology teacher at her high school had graduated from Berea, her other choice was Montevallo where daughter has graduated from. It really is a small world. Berea graduates about 300 or so a year but they are everywhere.
The other part of memories is the reconnecting with some of the people I went to high school with via facebook. People that I haven’t seen in more years than we really want to count. I don’t feel old but sometimes I’m reminded that I am (by something other than my aches and pains). A few years ago I got an invitation to my 35th year high school reunion, that will make you feel old. I went and enjoyed it, but the people I reconnected with on facebook weren’t there. Which reminds me why do some people make the effort to attend? Sometimes when I’m home my Mom has heard something or seen one of the people so I did get news over the years. People have changed I want to know them now. So the question becomes can we reconnect via facebook? is this a real relationship? or just an impersonal exchange of data?
I got up this morning way earlier than I wanted so I could walk the dog before it was too hot. We walked a little over a mile, I did this without even a cup of coffee. She still has the engery to chase a ball or watever I will throw down the hallway. Life is so unfair.

I bought a book the paper kind last week the first one I’ve bought in months. Its a how-to-book, there are a couple of novels I’m waiting for them to be available on my kindle. When I have been to the bookstore, I just make notes for books I want to order. Then I feel bad because I really do want there to continue to be bookstores. I didn’t buy my book at the bookstore they didn’t have it, I bought it at the craft store. Another blow to bookstores everywhere.
Zoey is in her second set of puppy classes. She’s not their greatest success story. Tuesday seemed like such a good day to do class. First we wouldn’t have to run the gauntlet of barking dogs at the door, and what’s going on on Tuesday, softball is on Monday and Thursday, nothing on tv we “had” to see, so what could go wrong. The first week we forgot, the second week we had a dinner for work and this week we had tickets from work for the Soldiers Show which we would have liked to have seen, instead we made puppy class. We have a yorkie named Tink (whats with naming tiny dogs for tinkerbell do people not have any imagination), a St. Bernard named Bella, a poodle didn’t get the name and Buddy from the first class. Zoey is still real timid so we drugged her they make this stuff called calming aid, you can use it for thunderstorms, riding in the car, those don’t bother Zoey but class terrifies her. So we gave her this treat and it did help. This week I’ll give it to her about 30 minutes before class and maybe she’ll like class better.

Jim and I have found some really great movies as the trailers in front of other movies we were planning to watch. This is such a movie, its called “The Visitor”. Its a very good movie that I had heard nothing about until we saw the trailor in front of Last Chance Harvey. Its a very thought provoking movie and puts our immigration system in a very bad light. (Which proably explains why it wasn’t in our theaters here) Another town here in Alabama just declared and passed an ordinance that English is the official language, no signs in spanish. I just think about how grateful I was in Germany for the English signs, and how I had to trust that people gave me back the correct change. The clerk at Euro Disney when I was clearly American paying in Deutshe marks she looked so confused especially as I had given her one american quarter thinking it was a mark. If you have the chance watch “The Vistor”.

Zoey and I had to cut our walk short this morning, there was a big dog out walking himself. He was in the yard of a house that I don’t think has a dog, at least I’ve never heard one bark when we walk past. I think I’ll be throwing stuff down the hall because she’ll need the exercise. For outside we bought her this ball thats about the size of a soccor ball without the skin so she can pick it up and carry it. It took about a week for her to pick it up and carry it. Without the skin I can still kick it across the yard, I wasn’t sure how far it would go.
Today is moving day for daughter, congrats on the new apartment. I’m afraid I wasn’t very sympathic when she was describing the troubles of moving. The hunt for boxes, getting the dishes clean to put in the boxes and when you reach the point that you just throw things in a box and write “misc” no matter what it is. I’ve made a mountain of list related to moving and no matter how well I planned I never had one work the way I wanted it to. I’ve lost track (or don’t want to count) of the times I’ve moved.

Jim and I went to a friends anniversary party yesterday. She’s part of my sewing group. This started us all thinking about how long we’ve been married. 50 doesn’t seem very far away. We’ll be married 36 years in a few weeks, about twice as long as were not dating or married. One couple has been married 45 years but they dated for 5 years before they were married. Another has been married for 42 years, another couple 36. Some were thinking how they would celebrate. I don’t know how we will celebrate, a party, a trip?
We had a date nite friday and we went to see “My Life In Ruins”. I enjoyed it and so did Jim (If I was planning a trip today it would probably involve Greece and bus). I can’t wait for this to come out on dvd, I’m buying and watching anytime I need some sunshine. Now I watch “Mama Mia” and “Bride and Prejudice”.
So far I’ve had to 2 people want to be my friend on facebook, they weren’t any one I recognized I don’t think they meant to be recognized. The pictures didn’t show but part of their face and most of their cleavage. Their mother’s would be so disappointed in them. Maybe I will send them a note about that. Hopefully they aren’t using their real names for those pictures.
This morning I shopped for a dress for daughter’s wedding online. All of the pattern books are online and you can just look too your hearts content. It took hours to go thru them. Zoey was laying by my feet, I thought she was asleep, and dreaming. I looked she was growling that low slow seriously leave me alone stuff and looking down the hallway. She wasn’t moving, ears up and some serious growling. If it had been dark or I had heard anything earlier I would have been concerned. I printed out a bunch of possibles for the wedding and the fabric store has this great red silk. The bride doesn’t have a problem with the red or if she has developed a problem with it she had better let me know real quick.
Filed under Uncategorized | Comment (0)Facebook has a new face. Me. I did most of it myself. I did upload a photo but it includes daughter and dog. I couldn’t crop them out, but that was a different program on our computer, nothing to do with facebook. I have no idea how to ask someone if you can be their friend and no real idea if I’ve made something public that shouldn’t have been. ( I didn’t put anything I wouldn’t have written on a postcard and dropped in the mail.) If it ask me a question, mostly I left them blank. I’ve been assured I can go back and make changes. Several people from my high school class have pages. Those came up when I put in my high school and year of graduation in. We’ll see what happens.
We’ve started intermediate puppy class, Zoey is learning to wait at the door. She sits waits and I go thru and then call her to come on in. She did really good on the sit and distraction in class this week. The instructor bounced a ball and when the ball hit the floor I would click the clicker and give her a treat. It was hotdogs this week. She let the instructor walk right up next to her. She’s so timid the instructor didn’t expect to be able to do that.

Can’t think of them and can’t spell it either. First thing I noticed when I checked in to add a new post. I did proof read and I do a preview post, can’t explain it.
Over the weekend we went to see the Ghost of Girlfriends Past. The idea of turning A Christmas Carol into a chick flick was interesting. It is set in the winter so there’s snow, but it isn’t a Christmas story. I don’t know what to say about it, its a chick flick. It has its funny moments. It won’t be the greatest movie ever made, but it was a fun way to spend the afternoon.
I came home from my sewing group and gave Zoey a bath, because tonight we start puppy class for intermediates. She’s walking better on the leash, we haven’t used the harness for over a week. I let her off the leash in the back yard to run and play, we can’t play fetch with a ball because she is too easily distracted by the birds. In fact she has a problem going potty she’s so distracted by the birds. I think there’s a robin nest close by because there are always robins with worms.
